Emma Watson

20 February 2016
When we came to the interview to London we met Emma Watson and she was quite cheerful. She welcomed us very warmly and we began with the interview…

Our first question was, why she played in the film Colonia.
She answered that she was a politically active woman and she was interested in the film’s topic.
Emma Watson played ‘Lena’ and she said Lena was very brave. Besides, she meant that Lena had made her brave. But when we questioned in what way she meant that Emma Watson said nothing.
It was too private…
She deals with acting, but she also does more things.
She said that she had founded a feminist book club with the name ‘Our Shared Shelf’.
Besides, Emma Watson told us that she drew some pictures and tried to play piano.
Emma Watson had studied, too. We asked her why she had done it in America and not in Oxford. She explained to us that she had wanted to get away from her familiar England and Oxford. She had wanted to get away from her life in England. She mentioned that it had been a radical decision, but a good one.
Although she had been lonely in far away America, it had been very liberating, she said.
Because we found her statement a little bit obscure we went into detail and asked her in what way she had meant it…
Subsequently, Emma Watson told us that she could do what she wanted and could be free. Besides, she had studied ‘the philosophy and psychology of the love’, she said. Unfortunately, she hadn’t learnt much about that.

Then we asked how she felt, when she became multi-millionaire.
Emma Watson pointed out that she had taken it well, because her parents had helped her. She had got a ‘pocket money’ every month: one hundred pounds.

Her parents are separated. We questioned whether it was ok for her.
She said that it had been ok, because her parents had taken care of her. Apart from that, she had only been five years old when it had happened.

Now we came to a very important point: After the Harry Potter films Emma Watson wanted to change. We wanted to know whether it was hard…
Yes, it had been hard, she said, and it had taken a long time. Sometimes she had read her old diary- and had been able to find herself in the little sorcerer’s apprentice Hermione Granger! She had felt well with 25, better than with 20! She didn’t want to be 20 again, Emma Watson told us.

Also interesting is that she is a feminist! We asked her about that and she answered she had founded ‘He For She’, a club against discrimination. That was an important point in Emma Watson’s life.

Sadly our interview was complete now. Emma Watson said goodbye in a friendly way.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the interview.
